 Job Summary

The Associate Director of Communications at Brookstone School reports directly to the Director of Communications.  This positions works closely with the leadership within advancement, enrollment, development, alumni relations, academic divisions, fine arts, athletics, and the Brookstone Parents Association to plan and carry out all components of the school's communication programs in order to present a positive and consistent image of Brookstone School to members of the school community and the general public. This position requires strong design and project management skills and the ability to work well with others in developing materials that convey and reinforce the mission of Brookstone.

 Essential Job Duties

  • Plan, design, and write copy for all print materials for the school community, including, but not limited to, the Brookstone magazine, faculty and family handbooks, annual school calendar, annual school directory, campus banners and signage, alumni, fund-raising, donor recognition pieces, student recruitment pieces, academic information, stationery and business cards, and other general campus communications
  • Plan, design, and write copy digital collateral as needed
  • Maintain constant communication with the point persons of all active jobs including tracking of proofs and edits on all, sometimes to include 15+ jobs at any one time, while communicating status of all jobs to Director of Communications weekly or more often as needed.
  • Manage and maintain a current archive of all digital assets including photography and print quality files
  • Guide the school in maintaining graphic standards and policies ensuring that all school communications carrying the school name and logo make a positive contribution to the institution's image; meet the high design and editorial standards expected of a quality, educational institution; accurately reflect the character of the institution; and reinforce the school philosophy and established institutional policies.
  • Work closely with the school photographer and other photography contributors to ensure the school's photography database is current, archived, shared with the appropriate individuals, and includes all relevant school events.
  • Coordinate the timely, error-free, and cost-effective production of all publications
  • Art direct freelance designers when needed

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:  Bachelor's degree in graphic design or similar. Preferred candidates will have 3+ years in a school environment as in-house designer. Acceptable experience will include similar experience for a non-profit, corporation, or agency as an in-house designer.

Additional Skills:  Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.  Knowledge and competence in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and Google Drive applications.  Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational skills; team player, encourager; writer and editor, all with strict attention to detail.

Work Requirements 

Extensive standing (sometimes outside) and extensive sitting.  Ability to lift and carry equipment (approximately 25 lbs.)
